In hope of rememberingexplorative
2021

Carried out in KASK & Conservatorium School of Arts Gent

Under guidance of Kristof Van Gestel
In hope of remembering is the result of personal reflection on memories and their processing. The objects I have collected over the years from various events and experiences were the starting point. The aim was to bring attention to how we approach our past — whether it influences our everyday life, whether we can or want to face it, and how much it affects who we are today.

The jacket is a result of processing elements from my past and a subjective comment on cherishing memories. Worn in public spaces it can be a pretext to engage in a conversation and provoke thoughts about what seems insignificant to us on a daily basis, but creates us as people. The aim is not only to bring attention to our relationship with the past, but also to the reception of the present in the context of the future.

The jacket was made by scanning various objects and turning them into a pattern, which was later printed onto a canvas. From this fabric, I have sewn everything together based on a pattern traced from my most worn jacket.
